UV light damages eyes the way it damages skin — gradually and invisibly. Long-term exposure is linked to cataracts and macular degeneration. The fix is simple: only wear lenses marked UV400, which block wavelengths up to 400 nanometers — that is 100% of UVA and UVB.
Two things people get wrong:
- Darkness is not protection. UV filtering comes from the lens material and coating, not the tint. A clear lens can be UV400; a nearly black lens can be UV-useless. Dark lenses without UV are actually worse than no sunglasses — they open your pupils and let more UV in.
- Price is not protection either. UV400 coating costs cents at manufacture. Cheap sunglasses can protect your eyes — if they are honestly labeled and tested. That is exactly what we check before a frame gets listed.

Polarization: the glare killer
A polarized filter blocks horizontally-oriented light — the kind that bounces off roads, water, hoods, and snow as blinding glare. The result is calmer, higher-contrast vision in bright reflective environments.
