The team behind our guides
The Journal is written by the Glasses Atlas team, the same people who select and test the frames we sell. We spend our days with eyewear: fitting frames to faces, measuring lenses, and reading the research on UV, materials, and lens technology. That hands-on work is where our guides come from.
We write under one name, the Glasses Atlas Team, because each article is a shared effort, checked by more than one person before it publishes.
How we test
Across our guides you will see a note called “From our test bench.” It is not a figure of speech. When we make a claim, we check it on real frames and lenses. Our routine includes:
- Metering lenses with a UV tool, because a dark tint tells you nothing about UV protection.
- Opening and closing hinges hundreds of times to see which stay tight.
- Weighing and flexing frames to compare materials like acetate, monel, stainless steel, and titanium.
- Testing lenses against real glare, on water, wet roads, and bright snow, to judge polarization and tint.
- Soak- and heat-testing materials such as wood to see how the finish holds up.
If we have not verified something ourselves, we say so, and we point you to a qualified professional.
Our editorial standards
- Honesty over hype. When a popular product does not do what it claims, we say so. We have published that blue light glasses show no proven benefit for eye strain, that yellow night-driving lenses do not help, and that a dark lens without UV is worse than none, even though none of that helps us sell more.
- Grounded in evidence. On eye-health topics we defer to recognized authorities such as the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and we keep our claims in line with the current consensus.
- Clear and current. Each guide answers the question directly, shows its working, and carries a last-updated date. We revise articles as products and guidance change.
- No invented expertise. We do not fake credentials or reviews. We tell you exactly what we are: an eyewear team that tests what it sells and writes what it learns.
